Lorenzo’s Strategy for Ducati: How to Retain MotoGP Stars Martin and Marquez for 2025
Jorge Lorenzo has suggested that Ducati has the capacity to retain both of their leading racers, provided they elevate Jorge Martin to their primary team by 2025.
Jorge Lorenzo believes that Ducati might part ways with one of their leading MotoGP competitors, but that number could increase to two based on their choices.
Ducati has announced plans to reveal who will be Francesco Bagnaia's partner for the 2025 racing season before the Italian MotoGP event in Mugello.
"Francesco Bagnaia identifies his primary championship contenders as the top three"
Fabio Quartararo expresses contentment despite Le Mans crash: "This is the first occasion I've felt joy following an accident"
Enea Bastianini (who is currently on the same team as Bagnaia), alongside Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez, are the competitors.
Martin and Bastianini are rumored to be potential candidates for Aprilia, while recent speculation suggests that KTM is actively pursuing Martin's signature.
Ducati might promote Marquez to its main team, a possibility that has been increasingly discussed in recent times.
However, if that occurs, Lorenzo is of the opinion that the Italian manufacturer would end up losing both Martin and Bastianini.
What actions would Lorenzo take?
In an interview with DAZN, Lorenzo mentioned, “Ducati's preference is to retain all four riders. Their perfect scenario involves having each of them in red; however, due to regulatory constraints, this can't happen, forcing them to make a selection.
"I believe they'll manage to retain three of them, but one is likely to depart. In my opinion, Jorge is the one who will exit if he isn't in red."
"Furthermore, should Bastianini face a demotion, he will depart. The sole exception they can retain without requiring him to don the red livery is Marc Marquez, albeit with access to a factory motorcycle."
"The most sensible strategy to retain three of the four would involve assigning Jorge Martin to the red team and positioning Marquez on a motorcycle identical to those of Bagnaia and Martin within the Gresini team under Red Bull sponsorship, or possibly with the Pramac squad should they continue their association with Ducati. This is my hypothesis."
