Honda and Yamaha dedicate a day at Mugello to address the recent issues of their underperforming motorcycles
Honda and Yamaha are engaging in a closed-door test session at Mugello on Wednesday, marking the next minor progress in their revival efforts.
Under the 2024 MotoGP concessions regulations, Japanese manufacturers will be granted extra days for testing.
Following the French MotoGP, the teams have moved to the Italian track that is set to hold a MotoGP championship race later in the month for a day dedicated to development.
Participants include Repsol Honda team members Luca Marini and Joan Mir, alongside LCR Honda riders Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami.
Yamaha riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins are also participating in the race.
Honda's development rider Stefan Bradl and Yamaha's development rider Cal Crutchlow will participate alongside others at Mugello.
Lorenzo Savadori, who serves as a test rider for Aprilia, will be participating on
Today marks another important day for Japanese manufacturers to address issues with their malfunctioning machinery ahead of consecutive race weekends in Barcelona (May 24-26) and Mugello (May 31-June 2).
Rins commented on his persistent issues at Le Mans, stating, “Riding solo, I faced the same challenges we've encountered throughout the weekend; difficulties in halting the bike while braking and experiencing significant sliding as I entered the turns.”
At the Le Mans race over the weekend, Nakagami tested out an altered swingarm. Zarco maintains that their issue lies in the lack of rear traction.
Zarco cautioned, stating, “However, we're facing a more significant issue that stems from the core of the motorcycle, its very essence. While the engine is typically seen as the heart, I'm not referring to the engine itself, but rather, the bike's fundamental characteristics need to evolve to provide us with a new lease on life.”
Mir from Honda improved his racing speed at Le Mans.
"He expressed satisfaction at being able to progress further with the setup and maintain a strong pace during the race."
Marini pointed out issues with turning and speeding up on his RC213V.
