Liberty Media, the proprietors of Formula 1, allegedly urged Red Bull to rethink their decision to let go of Sergio Perez before the season ended, concerned about potential financial losses at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
F1-Insider reports that Liberty Media has requested Red Bull to retain Perez as Verstappen's teammate to maintain the popularity of the Mexico City Grand Prix in October.
Sources indicate that confidential discussions have taken place, with Formula 1's governing body, Liberty Media, reportedly urging Red Bull to rethink their decision to let go of Perez.
"Fears were mounting that the absence of the beloved racer Perez could lead to a significant decline in earnings at the Mexican Grand Prix on October 27."
Red Bull was contemplating replacing Perez for the latter half of the season due to a series of dreadful performances.
Perez's failure to score points jeopardizes Red Bull's lead in the Formula 1 constructors' standings.
They hold a 42-point lead over McLaren before the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix this month.
Currently, Perez's performance remains solid, even though he lags behind Verstappen by 142 points.
"Despite recent rumors, Horner confirmed in a statement that Checo continues to be a driver for Red Bull Racing."
"We are excited to watch him compete at tracks where he has previously succeeded, following the summer hiatus."
Perez's continued affiliation with Red Bull ensures that both Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will stay on as RB drivers. It was widely believed that Ricciardo was the leading candidate at RB to replace Perez.
As a consequence, Liam Lawson will continue in his role as Red Bull's reserve driver, keeping him off the racing track.
Perez's extended tenure at Red Bull remains uncertain, as Helmut Marko hinted at a potential lineup change coming in 2025, indicating that "the cards will be reshuffled again."
