Lewis Hamilton Tops Spanish GP Practice, Signals Mercedes’ Strong Comeback
Lewis Hamilton shares a positive outlook following his leading performance in Spanish GP practice
Lewis Hamilton comments on a successful day for Mercedes at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton is confident that Mercedes has made significant progress, as demonstrated by their impressive performance during Friday's F1 practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton set the fastest lap in the second free practice session, surpassing Ferrari's Carlos Sainz.
The seven-time world champion showcased his exceptional speed in a single lap, furthering Mercedes' recent revival.
In the previous race in Canada, George Russell secured the top qualifying spot, indicating that Mercedes might have had the fastest vehicle under dry weather conditions.
Mercedes seems to be back in contention with Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Hamilton emphasizes that although he's not concentrating on the clock, he insists that driving the Mercedes W15 feels more comfortable.
"The first practice session was average. I drove around, and we gained a significant amount of knowledge during that time," he mentioned. "The second practice session was noticeably improved. We implemented some effective adjustments. The car's performance was truly impressive today.
The track is extremely hot, posing significant challenges for the tyres, particularly during extended stints. It seems like we're not too far behind. I'm not placing too much emphasis on lap times at this moment. The car is certainly performing better now.
"We need to make enhancements by tomorrow if we're to keep up with the Red Bulls, McLarens, and Ferraris."
Mercedes is consistently implementing improvements to their vehicle, aiming to recover from an initially sluggish performance this season.
Hamilton acknowledged Mercedes for enhancing the vehicle's drivability through the gradual improvements they are implementing in their development strategy.
"He also emphasized, 'The team at the plant is certainly putting in the effort, dedicating themselves tirelessly, just like they do annually."
"Possessing a clearer guiding principle – we now have an enhanced grasp of our desired direction for the vehicle."
"The gradual progress we're making… everyone is putting in a tremendous effort in assembling elements and maintaining a steady flow instead of sporadic large contributions. For this, I am truly thankful."
"We're beginning to notice our growing ease behind the wheel."
