Kevin Magnussen Faces Historic F1 Ban: To Miss Azerbaijan Grand Prix After Monza Incident
Kevin Magnussen faces an unprecedented suspension from the upcoming F1 race due to accruing 12 penalty points following the Monza incident.
Kevin Magnussen will be sidelined for a single race, sitting out the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, due to accumulating 12 penalty points on his Formula 1 licence.
During Sunday's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Haas team's driver received a 10-second time penalty and was also given two penalty points for initiating a crash with Pierre Gasly from the Alpine team.
Magnussen had accumulated 10 penalty points prior to receiving an extra two, making him the inaugural F1 racer to hit the 12-point mark that automatically leads to a suspension for one race.
Consequently, he'll be unable to participate in the upcoming Baku race.
Haas has yet to announce a replacement, but Oliver Bearman is expected to take over the role and drive for the team on a full-time basis next season.
Magnussen secured the 10th position at Monza, earning Haas one point.
The Danish racer becomes the first since Romain Grosjean in 2012 to receive a race ban.
