Francesco Bagnaia is in pole position for the sprint race on Saturday at the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix.
The Ducati team's rider, currently not at peak physical condition due to an accident during the Aragon GP, established a new track record to secure pole position and lead the pack in the upcoming races at Misano this weekend.
He'll share the front row with his VR46 Academy comrades Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi.
Jorge Martin, the current leader in the championship and aiming to increase his 23-point lead, faced a challenging qualifying session and will start from the fourth position on the grid.
Marc Marquez experienced a late crash during the second qualifying round and will begin from the ninth position.
The race kicks off at 2pm British Standard Time.

Jorge Martin amazed everyone by moving from fourth to first place on the first lap, overtaking Francesco Bagnaia, to clinch victory at the Misano sprint.

Marc Marquez surpassed Acosta in the final lap to secure the fifth position.
Checkered flag victory for Martin
Jorge Martin achieves his initial sprint victory since the German Grand Prix, taking the lead right from the start despite his fourth-place position on the grid.
He has increased his lead in the championship to 26 points ahead of Bagnaia.
Bastianini attempted an aggressive move on Morbidelli at Turn 8, but he veered off track and seemingly missed his chance.
Entering the final lap, Martin has established a 1.5-second lead over Bagnaia as they begin the last circuit.
Bastianini is closely pursuing Morbidelli for the third position.
During the 12th lap out of 13, Augusto Fernandez has received a long lap penalty due to repeatedly surpassing the boundaries of the track.
Marc Marquez is currently in sixth place, closely trailing Acosta for the fifth position.
As the race progresses to its 11th lap out of 13, Martin slightly extends his lead over Bagnaia, while Bastianini narrows the gap with Morbidelli even more.
Bastianini trails Morbidelli by 0.9 seconds, however, climbing onto the podium could be a challenging task for the Ducati team rider.
On lap 10 out of 13, Martin has slightly extended his lead over Bagnaia, with the distance between them now exceeding half a second.
Marc Marquez made a sharp move on the inside of Binder at Turn 14 to capture sixth place.
As we hit lap 9 out of 13, Martin remains in the lead with no shifts in the front positions.
Bagnaia has received a warning for exceeding track limits. So far, only three riders within the top 10 have avoided such warnings.
Di Giannantonio made a pit stop to withdraw on the eighth lap. It was a disappointing race for the VR46 team in front of their leader, Valentino Rossi, at the Misano circuit.
Following the leading trio, Bastianini occupies the fourth spot, ahead of Acosta, Binder, Marc Marquez, Miller, and Quartararo, rounding out the scoring positions in the sprint.
As they begin lap eight, Martin and Bagnaia are closely following one another. Meanwhile, Morbidelli maintains a one-second lead over Bastianini, who is in third place.
Miller encountered an error with his braking at Turn 8, opening the door for Marc Marquez to advance into seventh place.
On the seventh out of thirteen laps, Bagnaia is steadily increasing the intensity of the competition against Martin, who's leading. At the same time, Bastianini has been given a warning for exceeding the track boundaries.
Now, six out of the top 10 competitors have received warnings for exceeding track boundaries.
Bastianini is currently a second away from reaching the podium, yet he's setting personal records with his lap times in this part of the sprint.
At the midpoint of the race, during lap 6 out of 13, Martin remains in front, maintaining his lead over Bagnaia. Meanwhile, the duo has managed to pull away from Morbidelli, who is currently in third
The distance places them just one second behind the leading pair.
KTM teammates Acosta and Binder are fiercely competing for the fifth position, with the newcomer outperforming his experienced team member.
He had to make that maneuver since Bastianini has taken off into fourth position.

Bezzecchi has experienced a fall at the second corner. His front end gave out. His race has come to an end.
Jorge Martin and Morbidelli have received warnings for exceeding track boundaries. There's still much of the race left, making this a concerning issue for them!
