Jorge Martin Sets Ducati Deadline Before Considering KTM Switch in MotoGP Shakeup
Jorge Martin Sets Deadline for Ducati Before Engaging in Discussions with KTM
New Development in Jorge Martin's Contract Talks with Ducati
Jorge Martin has allegedly set a deadline for Ducati before he starts discussions about transferring to KTM.
Pramac competitor Martin currently leads the MotoGP rankings, after falling short of securing the 2023 championship in the last race.
Martin and Gresini's Marc Marquez are in competition with the existing Ducati team member Enea Bastianini for a crucial position with the Italian brand in 2025, sharing the lineup with Pecco Bagnaia.
Martin has been passed over for promotion by Ducati for two consecutive years and at the onset of this season, he cautioned the manufacturer that he would leave the company if he isn't elevated to a primary position by next year.
Martin has now communicated to Ducati that they must propose a contract for him to join the factory team next year by June 2, the date of the Italian MotoGP at Mugello, according to a report by Motorsport.
Martin has informed Ducati that if his request isn't fulfilled by the specified date, he will begin negotiations with KTM.
KTM has secured Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta for their MotoGP roster for the 2025 season.
They have also asserted that a dream transfer for Marquez is not feasible for the upcoming year.
However, the opportunity remains for Martin to come back.
Marca reports that KTM might propose a higher salary to Martin than Aprilia, potentially including a Red Bull sponsorship deal.
During his tenure in Moto2, Martin was affiliated with KTM, but his transition to the top tier saw a less than friendly departure from the Austrian brand.
Nevertheless, KTM emphasizes that they harbor no resentment.
"This issue has certainly been resolved," KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer explained to Motorsport-Magazin.
Those who are familiar with us understand our emotional depth and how we can experience profound sadness.
"When an individual departs in such a manner, it deeply affects us as we invest our entire passion and effort into it."
"Martin made all the correct moves regarding his career and has now emerged as the leader of the championship."
