Jack Doohan Emerges as Strong Candidate for F1 Debut Following Esteban Ocon's Departure
Jack Doohan is in the running to take over Esteban Ocon's position at Alpine in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Jack Doohan is being considered a strong candidate to potentially debut in Formula 1 with Alpine in 2025.
Before the Canadian Grand Prix took place, Alpine revealed that Esteban Ocon would not be part of their team for the upcoming season.
It is anticipated that Pierre Gasly will continue his tenure with the team based in Enstone, leaving one open spot on their roster.
Lawrence Barretto, an F1 correspondent, reports that Doohan, a member of their driving academy, is a leading candidate for the position.
Doohan clinched the third spot in the FIA Formula 2 2023 rankings, securing three remarkable wins along the way.
According to Barretto, Doohan might receive a promotion as Alpine aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of their youth development program.
He stated: "The team at Enstone holds him in high regard, admiring his speed and popularity among the team members. Alpine is eager to demonstrate that their Driver Academy offers a real route to the pinnacle of success."
The 21-year-old is the offspring of the renowned motorcycling icon, Mick Doohan, celebrated for clinching five world championships in the premier class of motorcycle racing.
Regarding alternative choices for Alpine, team leader Bruno Famin is interested in reuniting with Carlos Sainz at the organization.
Sainz was a team member for a little over a year, during which he worked with Nico Hulkenberg.
The German racer outperformed the Spaniard prior to his move to McLaren in 2019.
Beyond Sainz, Valtteri Bottas is also being considered for Alpine's other available position.
Williams and Haas are also showing interest in Bottas as they aim to strengthen their respective driving teams.
Alpine might consider Mick Schumacher as an option, given that he presently competes for the team in the World Endurance Championship.
Nonetheless, the ex-Haas racer is considered a dark horse.
