Ferrari Stands United: No Blame Game as Team and Leclerc Navigate Mid-Season Challenges
Ferrari refrains from blaming anyone for Charles Leclerc's recent decline in F1 performance
“There is absolutely no blame game happening here”
Ferrari's team leader, Fred Vasseur, has stated that within the team, there is no blame being assigned to anyone following a series of challenging outcomes after Charles Leclerc's win in Monaco.
The team got off to a great beginning in the 2024 season, with Carlos Sainz securing a victory in Australia and Leclerc landing on the podium four times in the initial seven races, culminating in a win at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Since that time, the two racers have only made it to the podium once each. Additionally, front wing damage during the race in Austria and a tactical error following weak qualifying results at Silverstone led to Leclerc ending those races without scoring any points.
After finishing fourth and third in the subsequent races, Leclerc mentioned post the Belgian Grand Prix that, in his opinion, Ferrari currently possesses the fourth-quickest car.
Vasseur acknowledges mistakes have been made by both parties during the initial part of the season, but emphasizes that Ferrari is not looking to assign fault. He suggests that the root of Leclerc's dissatisfaction lies in his higher aspirations.
"Vasseur expressed to formula1.com that the challenges extend beyond Charles, affecting the entire team."
Following Monaco, we encountered a challenging series of events. In Canada, our situation wasn't too dire.
"It's evident that the car has become somewhat more challenging to handle in the recent events, and there's also an increased level of expectation placed on Charles."
"In a team's journey, experiencing highs and lows is inevitable. We are constantly in conversation with Charles."
"He's aware of our circumstances, our strengths, and our shortcomings, acknowledging that there were instances where he erred."
"However, we are not in a position where we're attempting to place the blame on anyone."
"For years, we've collaborated closely, understanding each other thoroughly. We're aware of our mutual drive and recognize that all we need to do is make some adjustments."
"We're definitely not in a position to assign blame. Having a personal relationship really comes in handy in these circumstances."
Heading into the summer hiatus, Leclerc is positioned third in the rankings with 177 points, trailing 100 points behind the frontrunner, Max Verstappen, while Ferrari holds the third spot in the team standings.
