Ferrari Protege Oliver Bearman Secures Multi-Year F1 Deal with Haas, Set for Full-Time Debut in 2025
Ferrari's young talent Oliver Bearman has secured a multi-year contract with the Haas F1 team. Bearman is set to join Haas as a full-time driver next season.
Promising young British racer Oliver Bearman has landed a full-time F1 position with Haas, committing to a "multi-year" contract that begins in 2025.
Haas announced on Thursday that the Ferrari protégé would be taking a full-time position, a move that had been anticipated for a while, right before this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
A 19-year-old from Chelmsford made history as the youngest Brit to start a grand prix. He was unexpectedly called to replace Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who was sidelined with appendicitis, during the Saudi Arabian race in March.
Bearman made a strong first impression in his Formula 1 debut by securing the 11th position in the qualifiers at Jeddah and then finishing in seventh place in the race, surpassing seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Despite facing a challenging second season in Formula 2 with the typically dominant Prema team, which has surprisingly lacked competitiveness in this year's feeder series to Formula 1, Bearman has managed to leave a positive impression on Haas.
"It's difficult to express the significance of this moment for me," Bearman remarked. "Announcing that I will be a Formula 1 driver for the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team fills me with immense pride."
"Being among the rare individuals who achieve their childhood dreams is truly remarkable. I want to extend my gratitude to Gene, Ayao, and the entire Haas team for having faith in me and allowing me to represent you."
"I have truly relished collaborating with the team since our initial meeting in Mexico and eagerly anticipate sharing this moment with them, along with many more in the future. To Fred, Marco, Jock, Alessandro, and the entire Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy crew, I must say that I wouldn't have reached this point without your support."
"I appreciate the preparation you've provided since my F4 days, and I assure you I will put in my utmost effort for this amazing opportunity."
He has already participated in two FP1 sessions with Haas this season at Imola and Barcelona and will drive the VF-24 again at Silverstone on Friday.
The identity of Bearman's teammate for the next season with the American team remains undetermined.
Nico Hulkenberg is transitioning to competing team Sauber/Audi, whereas his teammate Kevin Magnussen's contract is expiring, leaving his future with the team uncertain.
One candidate closely associated with a seat at Haas is Esteban Ocon, who will be departing from Alpine when the season concludes.
