**”Fernando Alonso Dismisses Adrian Newey Rumors, Calls for Team Effort to Resolve Aston Martin’s Struggles”**
Fernando Alonso addresses speculation about an imminent announcement from Adrian Newey this week
Fernando Alonso states, "I’m not a fan of excuses," amidst Aston Martin's ongoing challenges
Fernando Alonso emphasizes that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than the efforts of a single individual, amid ongoing speculation about Adrian Newey's potential involvement.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix indicated that Aston Martin might reveal the hiring of Newey in the next few days.
Adrian Newey, the soon-to-depart chief technology officer at Red Bull, is set to leave his position early next year, after which he can join a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors suggesting that Aston Martin might be his upcoming team have intensified lately, while speculation about a potential move to Ferrari has diminished.
"Currently, there are just rumors, and I believe it's not the responsibility of a single person to resolve the issues," Alonso mentioned at Monza.
"It's about focusing on our current situation and what we're creating. We need to identify what is progressing well and what isn't, and work on preparing for 2025 more effectively."
If Newey is available next year, he could manage the 2026 car for a different team, potentially providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations are implemented.
Aston Martin has significantly funded a new facility in Silverstone and secured a contract with Alonso that extends through 2026. They are collaborating with Honda to develop an engine that meets the upcoming regulations.
However, up to that point, the outcomes have been quite disheartening.
Aston Martin is currently in fifth place in the constructors' standings. At the Italian Grand Prix, Alonso secured the 11th position, while his teammate Lance Stroll ended up in 19th place.
The year 2025 could serve as a period of preparation for Aston Martin before they make a significant push in 202
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Alonso responded. “We’re relying on our team, and I believe both Lance and I are putting in our best efforts every weekend.”
"During one particularly inspiring weekend, similar to this one, I am confident that it will remain entirely anonymous."
"This year, Lance and I have consistently finished races very close to each other, often just two or three seconds apart, either ahead or behind. Today was one of those weekends where I performed slightly better. I felt satisfied with the car and pushed it to a level that might have been beyond its limit, resulting in an 11th place finish."
"Yes, it's disappointing. We have to remain patient and keep in mind that our main goal is 2026."
"However, I believe that as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a spot in the top four. Those teams are elite and significantly ahead of us."
"However, currently being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and Red Bull means we need to step up our game. Improvement is necessary."
Alonso commented on the car for next year, stating, "I believe we still have enough time to make adjustments."
"McLaren went from being at the bottom to securing a podium finish in just four months. This serves as a clear example."
"Similarly, Mercedes had a comparable start to ours. We were on par with Mercedes during the initial four races, and they've already secured three victories this season. Therefore, I don't support making excuses."
However, it is improbable that Aston Martin will make progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso expressed his frustration, stating that the current performance of the car needs improvement and is simply not adequate until an upgrade is made.
"Performance fell short in Monza. It wasn't up to par in Zandvoort, Spa, or Hungary."
"I believe there won't be significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin unless we introduce new components."
"That's the strategy. The group understands what's going on. Everyone is giving their all. So yes, we stay together. We keep striving. Last weekend we earned one point. Today we nearly secured two points, and that's the challenge we face."
