Europe Heads to the Polls!
The European elections are underway! Early voting is available in multiple countries – in Estonia, voting online has been an option since Monday, June 3rd. The Dutch cast their votes on Thursday, June 6th. Today, June 7th, it's the turn of the Irish and the Czechs to vote, with the remainder of Europe set to follow over the weekend.
Approximately 360 million European citizens are being called upon to elect the 720 members of the upcoming European Parliament. For the first time, 2 million teenagers aged 16 and 17 are eligible to vote – with Belgium, Germany, Malta, and Austria setting the voting age at 16, and Greece at 17. In all other countries, individuals must be 18 years old to cast their vote. Details on the voting process and schedule can be found on the official European election website.
Estimates (between 8:15 PM and 8:30 PM) and preliminary outcomes (from 11:15 PM to 11:30 PM) of the election will be refreshed live on the designated results website.
Real-time coverage of the European Election
Media outlets have the opportunity to access audio-visual content related to the elections across all EU member states through EbS or the Multimedia Centre. Included in this collection are unique videos from a Dutch polling station located within a windmill. Citizens of the EU have also cast their votes in distinctive locations such as on the island of Svartsö in Sweden and aboard a ferry in Kemiönsaari, Finland. Additionally, residents from fourteen countries were given the option to vote via mail, a method also utilized by Greek voters. As the weekend progresses, more election footage will be uploaded, featuring scenes of leading candidates and party leaders casting their votes.
