End of an Era: Niccolo Canepa Retires Without Fairytale Finish as Yamaha Falls Short in EWC Finale
Yamaha Veteran Steps Down – Missing the Ideal Conclusion
Storybook Ending Eludes a Remarkable Motorcycle Racing Career
Niccolo Canepa concluded his career on Sunday at the Endurance World Championship, though he did not secure the championship title.
The Suzuki-powered Yoshimura team defeated Yamaha in the final race of the FIM Endurance World Championship held at Circuit Paul Ricard.
This resulted in Canepa missing out on a dream ending to his one-of-a-kind career.
His Yamaha YART team was limited to securing third place.
Canepa declared that he plans to retire after the Bol d’Or race in France, which will determine the winner of the 2024 Endurance World Championship (EWC).
The Italian motorcyclist has competed in MotoGP, WorldSBK, Moto2, WorldSSP, and MotoE during a 20-year career.
However, he discovered his passion in endurance racing, achieving victories in all three premier races: Spa, Le Mans, and the Bol d'Or.
However, even though he clinched the EWC championship last year, his attempt to secure consecutive titles was unsuccessful.
"This was my final participation in the Endurance World Championship," Canepa stated.
"It was a pleasant experience, but sadly, we didn't finish the race as we had hoped."
"It’s moving to be present with my teammates and family."
"We experienced many wonderful times as well as some difficult ones."
