End of an Era: Niccolò Canepa Retires Without Dream Finale Despite Illustrious Motorcycle Racing Career
Yamaha veteran bows out – dream conclusion eludes him
Storybook ending remains out of reach for an exceptional motorcycling career
Niccolo Canepa concluded his professional career on Sunday, following the final race of the Endurance World Championship, but did not claim the championship title.
In the final round of the FIM Endurance World Championship at Circuit Paul Ricard, the team powered by Suzuki, Yoshimura, outperformed Yamaha.
This resulted in Canepa being robbed of a storybook ending to his distinctive career.
His Yamaha YART squad was limited to a third-place finish.
Canepa revealed his plans to retire following the Bol d’Or event in France, which is set to determine the champion of the 2024 EWC series.
Over a span of two decades, the rider from Italy has participated in various competitions including MotoGP, WorldSBK, Moto2, WorldSSP, and MotoE.
However, he discovered his real passion in endurance racing, securing victories in all three prestigious events – Spa, Le Mans, and the Bol d’Or.
However, even though he clinched the EWC championship last year, his attempt to secure consecutive titles was unsuccessful.
"Canepa stated, 'This marked my final chapter with the EWC.'"
"Our journey has been pleasant, yet regrettably, we didn't conclude the race as we had hoped."
"Being here with my teammates and family stirs deep emotions in me."
"We experienced numerous incredible times together as well as quite a few challenging periods."
