End of an Era: Honda and Repsol Part Ways After 30 Years of MotoGP Triumphs
Alberto Puig discusses Honda parting ways with sponsor Repsol
Decades-long partnership of immense triumph set to conclude shortly
Honda's Alberto Puig has honored departing sponsor Repsol, emphasizing that their shared accomplishments will continue to be celebrated in MotoGP history.
The Spanish petroleum firm, Repsol, is set to conclude its main sponsorship role with Honda by the close of this year.
A three-decade-long collaboration that has created unforgettable moments in MotoGP history is drawing to a close.
Repsol Honda has secured fifteen championships in the riders' category, thanks to victories by renowned athletes such as Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, and Marc Marquez.
"Team manager Puig believes both organizations performed exceptionally well," he remarked.
"This partnership flourished for three decades.
"Numerous championships, undisputed mastery in the game over an extended period."
They created an excellent product specifically for Honda motorcycles. In turn, Honda manufactured high-quality motorcycles for Repsol to demonstrate its capabilities.
"The partnership was highly beneficial, yet, as with all things, there are moments when it concludes."
Each company holds a significant amount of respect towards one another.
"Both firms deeply appreciate the contributions each has made throughout this extensive journey."
"From Honda's perspective, we are pleased and we extend our gratitude."
"The championships and triumphs we secured as a team will endure throughout motorsport history."
Honda has faced significant challenges, and their separation from Repsol seemed unavoidable when, at the beginning of this year, the visibility of the title sponsor on the motorcycle was substantially diminished.
Honda hasn't claimed a grand prix victory in three years, and their aspirations took a significant hit when Marquez joined Gresini Ducati.
Currently, they are positioned at the bottom, ranking 11th in the team standings.
Meanwhile, Repsol has not yet confirmed if it intends to back a different team in the MotoGP series.
