Ducati Delays Decision on Marquez’s Future, Rider Line-up for 2025 MotoGP Season in Limbo
Update on the Postponement of Ducati's Verdict Regarding Marc Marquez's Career Prospects
Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Enea Bastianini face an extended period of uncertainty
Ducati has no plans to announce their MotoGP team roster for the 2025 season during this weekend's Mugello event.
The deadline for the Italy-based motorbike manufacturer to decide on Pecco Bagnaia's teammate for the upcoming season has been extensively shared, coinciding with the date of the Italian MotoGP.
Enea Bastianini, his present team member, along with Marc Marquez from Gresini and Jorge Martin from Pramac, are contenders for the highly sought-after red motorcycle.
However, they will now have to endure an extended period of uncertainty before discovering what the future holds for them.
"A spokesperson for Ducati clarified to Motorsport that there was never a statement made about revealing it at Mugello."
"We've consistently stated that starting from Mugello, we'll start to clarify what the decision will be."
Ducati's chief executive, Gigi Dall’Igna, mentioned, "We'll make a decision shortly, although contract matters are often complex, and discussions might extend beyond anticipated timelines."
"It will require a period to implement the concept, bring it into existence, and subsequently share it with the general populace."
Speaking to Sky Italia, Ducati's Chief Executive Officer Claudio Domenicali expressed, "Each one of them is an exceptional rider, yet we believe we can achieve the perfect equilibrium."
This weekend's MotoGP event in Italy marks the seventh race of the 2024 season.
Following that, there's a pause of three weeks before the event in Assen.
Ducati's significant choice has left everyone in the MotoGP paddock eagerly anticipating its results.
Bastianini's debut season with the factory team was marred by injury, leaving him at a disadvantage this year.
Last year, Martin, who was performing exceptionally well, missed the championship title in the final round, consequently losing the direct elevation to the factory team that winning the championship would have secured.
Martin is at the top of the MotoGP standings after six races, as they move towards the Mugello circuit
He has stated his intention to leave Ducati unless he is donning red by 2025.
This year, Ducati has embraced the esteemed Marquez into their fold, with a position on an independent team.
Marquez asserts that next year, he will be riding a bike that meets factory specifications, unlike the year-old model he is currently using.
This decision regarding the rider also affects Pramac as a whole team.
They are deliberating on whether to remain with Ducati for the upcoming year or switch to Yamaha.
Consequently, both Gresini and VR46, Ducati's additional satellite squads, are impacted as well.
The rider market is also keenly awaiting Ducati's decision to find out which riders or bikes will be up for grabs in 2025.
