Daniel Ricciardo’s Stellar Performances Strengthen His Bid for F1 Future Amid Red Bull Pressure
"Ricciardo Gains Confidence After Weekend Performance"
Daniel Ricciardo is optimistic that his latest showing will positively influence Helmut Marko's perspective.
Daniel Ricciardo feels assured that his recent impressive performance has increased his chances of landing a spot with RB in the 2025 F1 season.
Ricciardo is feeling the heat to deliver results, as Red Bull considers offering Liam Lawson a permanent spot with the team next season.
There are even indications that Ricciardo might be swapped out after the summer break due to a clause in Lawson's contract, which allows him to seek opportunities with other teams if he doesn't get a driving position.
Ricciardo has replied with a streak of strong showings.
The Austrian Grand Prix was possibly his most impressive weekend so far, as he outshone his teammate Yuki Tsunoda and turned that performance into a points finish.
RB likely lacked the speed to secure a top 10 spot at the Red Bull Ring, prompting Ricciardo to adopt a defensive strategy.
After the race, he expressed his thoughts: "I believe that's three consecutive weeks where I've given my best effort. I'm still striving for a bit more perfection, but yes, three in a row. At the very least, I can say I've left the paddock proud on three straight Sundays. I just need to maintain this momentum."
Ricciardo firmly believes that his impressive performance during races will persuade Marko and change his perspective.
Daniel Ricciardo shared his long-standing familiarity with Helmut, emphasizing that Helmut is indifferent to personal traits. "Ultimately, he focuses on the stopwatch and the race results," Ricciardo noted. "His primary concern is our performance on the track. This approach can quickly shift his opinion of me from unfavorable to favorable."
"I believe this weekend has been beneficial. As I mentioned before, there's a bit more consistency now, so we just need to maintain this momentum. Hopefully, by the summer break, he'll be relaxing on a beach thinking, ‘Ricciardo still has his talent.'"
Ricciardo felt satisfied to have outperformed both Alpine cars, which seemed faster this weekend.
Ricciardo admitted that he couldn’t recall the entire race and would likely need to rewatch it to assess his feelings accurately, but he felt more pleased than disappointed overall. He noted that although Haas outperformed them, their speed wasn’t sufficient.
"I believe the Alpine was faster as well, so maintaining position was challenging. The team played a crucial role; we had two sets of hard tyres, allowing us to pit earlier and take advantage of track position. They called me into the pit at the perfect moment, and from there, it was all about keeping an eye on the mirrors and avoiding any mistakes!"
