Daniel Ricciardo Targets Formula 1 Contract Renewal with Red Bull: A Breakthrough in Canada Sparks Optimism
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledges significant achievement "beneficial, necessary" for securing a new contract
"I aim to merit it. Not simply a case of ‘sure, sure, stay on for another year…’"
Daniel Ricciardo has acknowledged that his strong showing in Canada was necessary to secure his continuation in Formula 1.
The contract of the RB racing driver is set to end this year, and his performance, which has been substandard for a significant portion of the year, has attracted negative attention. Among his critics, Jacques Villeneuve has been notably vocal in questioning his value.
In the previous Canadian Grand Prix, amid an exchange of heated comments with Villeneuve, Ricciardo achieved his highest finish of the season, securing 8th place.
Approaching the F1 Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, he holds a renewed sense of optimism about securing his spot at RB for 2025.
"Clearly, Canada was beneficial. A performance like that was exactly what I needed," Ricciardo expressed in Barcelona.
"I'm keen on remaining here. Now that I've returned to the Red Bull fold, I truly can't envision myself with any other team.
"I'd be happy to remain and keep going.
"Prior to Canada, I mentioned my desire to work for it."
"Not merely a casual 'sure, sure, stick around a bit longer…'"
"Clearly, my desire to stay is strong because I'm confident in my ability to continue delivering performances like the one last week, proving I still have what it takes."
"Under those circumstances, I'd be delighted to remain."
RB pledges to revamp Aston Martin
When questioned about his progress with RB, Ricciardo responded.
"The outcome is always beneficial. The sensation hasn't been too distant," he remarked.
"The place where I completed the race wasn't always my desired destination."
"In Canada, our performance got off to a strong start right from the practice sessions. It had been quite a while since we experienced a weekend like that."
"Starting well and finishing well felt great."
"The squad has excelled in providing updates, and the vehicle has made significant progress."
"I am optimistic that we can achieve a more steady presence.
Beneficial for myself, beneficial for those supporting, and aware that I am capable.
"Individually, experiencing such a weekend was essential and required. It was a positive feeling for all involved."
RB is among multiple squads introducing improvements at the Barcelona event.
"Indeed, we anticipate a better outcome," Ricciardo commented.
"However, in comparison to others? It's a matter of waiting to find out.
"Traditionally, this marks the beginning of the European season, where all participants put forward their strongest performance."
"I'm aware that we'll move faster, but it all depends on the context."
"Our team has consistently performed well, managing to score points almost every weekend."
The newly revitalized RB team, buoyed by Yuki Tsunoda's strong performance, is setting its sights on surpassing Aston Martin.
"That's the objective," cautioned Ricciardo.
"In Canada, they surpassed us in the competition and outnumbered us on Sunday."
This year, we found ourselves nearer to our goal than we initially believed.
"The mindset from this point onward is focused on progress. We don't consider our current sixth position as fixed. We're looking beyond that."
"Aston is a squad we'd relish competing against more frequently.
"We perceive ourselves as being near to them."
