Rachel Reeves is set to outline Labour's intentions to reduce spending in government departments and the Civil Service, while accusing Rishi Sunak's administration of concealing economic issues.

The finance minister is scheduled to address the House of Commons later today, following an evaluation of the government's financial situation since assuming office earlier this month.

Ms. Reeves is set to disclose a £20 billion financial deficit that she identified, though the Conservative Party contends that she was likely informed about this prior to her assumption of office.

Catch a special Sky News broadcast of Ms. Reeves' speech starting at 3pm. It will be available on Sky channel 501, Virgin channel 602, and Freeview channel 233. You can also watch it online through the Sky News website and app, or on YouTube.

Insight: Critical aspects to monitor as Reeves unveils budget reductions

Ms. Reeves is set to reveal when this year's autumn budget will be presented, amid rumors that Labour might increase taxes during this financial occasion.

Cabinet minister Pat McFadden informed Sky News that although there are no tax increases planned for today, this does not rule out the possibility of changes occurring in the fall.

The finance minister's address is scheduled to start post-3pm, contingent on the proceedings within the Commons.

Today's briefing will outline proposals for reducing public sector expenditures as a strategy to conserve funds for this fiscal year.

The Treasury has indicated that Ms. Reeves is set to unveil prompt measures to reestablish economic stability and implement savings within departments within the current fiscal year.

It is anticipated that she will agree to the suggestions made by the pay review committee, resulting in certain public sector employees like teachers, military personnel, and prison officers receiving pay increases that exceed the rate of inflation.

It is expected that several road initiatives, such as the Stonehenge tunnel project, will face immediate halts.

Plans for forty hospital construction projects are anticipated to be put on hold.

Ms. Reeves is anticipated to declare: "We must be honest with the citizens and disclose the reality.

The former administration avoided making tough choices and concealed the actual condition of the government's finances before abandoning their responsibilities. I promise never to follow their example.

"The citizens of Britain have expressed their desire for transformation, and we are committed to making it happen. I pledge to reestablish economic stability and I will not allow such events to occur again.

"We're committed to strengthening the core of our economy, which will enable us to reconstruct Britain and enhance prosperity across every region."

Mr. McFadden, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, informed Sky News that the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the body that scrutinizes government expenditures, will need to update its projections due to unforeseen fiscal pressures within the year that the government had not previously disclosed.

He criticized the Conservative administration for depleting the reserve funds to finance their asylum policy in Rwanda, leaving them unavailable for other potential needs throughout the year.

The chancellor is set to unveil the Office of Value for Money (OVM), which will be funded through current Civil Service budgets, aiming to eliminate unnecessary expenditure.

The OVM will suggest strategies for reducing expenditures from the public budget this year.

New changes are set to be introduced aimed at increasing "efficiencies"—often a euphemism for reductions—in various government sectors and agencies, including the Prison and Probation Service, Met Office, Environment Agency, and HM Revenue and Customs.

Immediate measures will be taken to halt all non-critical expenditures on consultancy services, alongside the rapid disposal of excess properties and the acceleration of already declared cost-saving strategies.

Ms. Reeves is expected to state: "Prior to the election, I mentioned that we would be dealing with the most challenging situation since World War II.

Tax rates are the highest they've been in seven decades. The national debt has skyrocketed. The economy is barely recovering from a downturn. I was aware of all these issues. I spoke candidly about them throughout the electoral campaign, acknowledging the tough decisions that lay ahead.

"When I assumed my position at the Treasury three weeks earlier, I quickly realized there was information previously unknown to me. Information that the opposing party had concealed from the nation."

The Chancellor intends to restore the UK to a single annual budget event as a measure to bring stability back to the financial markets.

She plans to reaffirm the government's financial regulations, which stipulate not using borrowed money for routine expenses and reducing debt by the fifth year of the economic projection.

Shadow Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury Gareth Davies commented, "Rachel Reeves is attempting to deceive the British public into accepting Labour's tax increases."

"She seems to ignore the existence of the OBR, set up by the Conservatives and integral to their budget forecasts, to lend credibility to her statements. Like her previous publications, her current declarations are merely reiterations of past proposals. Moreover, her claims of intending to save taxpayer money are hypocritical, as she concurrently schemes to increase their tax burden in secrecy."
