Brad Binder Heeds Front Tyre Warnings to Avoid Repeat Crash in Catalunya MotoGP
Brad Binder acknowledges the need for increased awareness following front tyre alerts: "I need to be more alert…"
Brad Binder reflects: "I thought, 'Alright, I ignored this alert yesterday, so it's time to be more vigilant.'"
Brad Binder was in the running for a top-three finish in the initial laps of the Catalunya MotoGP, but by the sixth lap, his performance sharply declined.
Binder fell behind the top three racers and was overtaken by Aleix Espargaro and Raul Fernandez, who both passed the KTM competitor within just two turns.
"After the race, Binder explained, "I was aware that managing the race was crucial, so from the start, my focus was on conserving the rear tyre throughout."
An unusual event occurred during the sixth lap. My front tire had completely worn out, maai-allcreator.com">king it impossible for me to maintain speed upon entry or brake effectively at the last moment.
"When you make your entrance at such a gradual pace and also need to ensure the rear tire lasts until the finish, wow, the speed was incredibly low.
"I couldn't exert any force, and whenever I attempted to, the front would just lock up on me. My main focus was to bring the bike back safely. There's not much more to elaborate on."
Binder subsequently verified that the problems he encountered during the grand prix occurred again during the sprint on Saturday, at the exact same number of laps.
"Truthfully, while racing around the same circuit, I experienced a significant lock-up on the front for the first time ever and ended up crashing," shared the official KTM racer.
"Today, I experienced a few of those moments which served as a timely alert, indicating a repeat occurrence. It prompted me to contemplate whether I wanted to conclude the day as I did previously or to see things through to the end."
Binder was alluding to frightening moments primarily occurring as he attempted to fully tilt the motorcycle while entering corners.
Binder mentioned, "Particularly during the transition into a corner, I experienced an issue while attempting to achieve the maximum lean angle."
"It significantly overwhelms the front tire to some extent. I experienced several locks under those conditions and thought to myself, ‘alright, I ignored this sign yesterday, so I better pay attention now’."
"The truth of the matter is, if you're unable to exert that level of effort, you end up moving at a sluggish pace, and that's exactly what happened."
