Binder’s Burnout Battle and Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak: Aragon MotoGP Drama Unfolds
Brad Binder: "Once again, I ended up doing a rolling burnout!" Jack Miller: "Rins got the better of me."
Brad Binder mentioned, "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP performance since the start of the season in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at the Aragon race.
Despite veering off course in both competitions, he still managed to secure seventh place, which was on the cleaner side of a messy starting lineup.
Throughout the middle segment of the race, Binder followed closely behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided in front, with just 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
“I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I managed to do another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" said Binder with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake some competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire overheated while racing behind others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time while exiting the corners since I couldn't enter them too quickly without overheating the front tire. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired in the end, as the left side of the tire wore out completely."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind him!"
"Aside from that, we took several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with adjusting the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, starting from 15th position, made an impressive start and moved up to eighth place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly encountered issues with rear tire grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins for ninth place on the final lap, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for improper tire pressure, which relegated him to 15th position.
“It was a lengthy race,” remarked Miller. “The track conditions varied once more; it has been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was tough managing the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside near the exit of the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish the race."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll keep working hard."
Pleased to finish in the top ten, but I got overtaken by Rins on the back straight during the final lap. I tried my best to be accurate, but I had poor acceleration, which allowed him to pass me on the back straight.
"We'll return to Misano in the future."
Test rider Pol Espargaro joining as a wild-card entry will increase KTM's lineup to five riders this weekend.
"Next, head to Misano with an eye on the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard, which will be beneficial for us moving forward," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, placing Acosta in fifth position in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently placed 15th, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
