Binder’s Burnout and Miller’s Misfortune: A Rollercoaster Weekend at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "Once again, I experienced a rolling burnout!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller remarked that he was "nipped by Rins." Binder also shared, "I devised an excellent strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the opening race in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
This occurred despite him veering off the track in both races, though he managed to secure seventh place on a relatively better part of a messy starting grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This turned into a contest for the third position after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia clashed ahead with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to stay slightly beyond grasp.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and I did another rolling burnout just like the previous day," Binder said with a smile.
"I maneuvered through the field and overtook several riders. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating from following others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't approach them too quickly with the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
“I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but I had no more power from behind!
"Overall, we took several encouraging strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, who started in 15th position, had a strong beginning, advancing to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly faced challenges with maintaining rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins for ninth place on the final lap, he, along with two other riders, was handed a 16-second penalty for tyre pressure violations after the race, which demoted him to 15th position.
"It's been a long race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions have changed once more; it has been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was difficult to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident coming out of the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when moving from the tire's edge to its center, but I managed to finish successfully."
"There were no errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the leaders. We'll continue working hard."
"I’m pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I tried my best to stay accurate, but I didn't get a good run, and he managed to outpace me on the straightaway."
“We’ll return to Misano.”
Test rider Pol Espargaro will be making another wild-card appearance this weekend, increasing KTM's representation to five riders.
"Next, we'll head to Misano, where we'll also focus on the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard entry, which should provide valuable insights for our future plans," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, potentially set to be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
