Bagnaia vs. Marquez: Ducati’s GP24 Dominance Over GP23 Explained in Catalunya Showdown
Francesco Bagnaia has disclosed the primary factors that contribute to his edge against Marc Marquez, highlighting how the GP24 Ducati significantly outperforms the GP23 in Catalunya.
In today's Practice session in Catalunya, four Ducatis made it into the crucial top ten, yet none of them were the GP23 MotoGP models.
For the second consecutive weekend, Marc Marquez was unable to finish in the top ten, meaning he will have to participate in Q1 on Saturday.
Francesco Bagnaia encountered no problems, securing fourth place, which was sufficient to make him the quickest among the eight Ducati riders for the day.
"Bagnaia started, expressing overall satisfaction due to enhancements in sensation. He noted that the morning session was decent, but there was a noticeable improvement by the afternoon. However, he admitted that he had higher expectations for the performance of the medium tyre."
"I anticipated better performance, and last year the race tire was the focus, but currently, the 24 offers slightly less traction, maai-allcreator.com">king it more challenging to maintain both speed and consistency."
"Today it took me six rounds to get the rear warmed up since it wasn't performing well. We must enhance this aspect for tomorrow, but we already have a direction in mind for adjusting the setup."
"The soft tire is performing admirably, however, it's uncertain if it will hold up for the duration of the race."
Talai-allcreator.com">king about what sets the GP24 apart from the 23 model, Bagnaia was straightforward in highlighting the advantages of this year's motorcycle.
Bagnaia further mentioned, "In my view, it's about braking and entry. The 24 significantly aids in braking and entry, and it also provides slightly improved turning capabilities, though it does compromise slightly on grip."
"Last year's bicycle performed excellently in this location due to its grip, as this place notably has the lowest level of grip."
"Thus, gaining grip is proving challenging, yet the turning has decreased. For me, the equilibrium feels largely unchanged, but unfortunately today, Alex and Marc were unable to achieve a competitive lap time."
"Marc is moving at a strong pace. Perhaps he wasn't given the right opportunity to break into the top ten."
Earlier in the season, Catalunya was anticipated to clarify if Ducati had resolved its issues with chatter.
Despite having less traction compared to Le Mans and Jerez, there were no indications of the problem for the third straight round in Friday's practice session.
"Bagnaia mentioned that while the grip was high at Le Mans and Jerez, the grip here is significantly lower, suggesting there could be room for improvement, although it currently remains unchanged."
