Aston Martin Leads the Race with €100m Offer to F1 Design Wizard Adrian Newey Amidst Ferrari Speculations
Aston Martin is said to have tabled an astonishing €100m proposal to secure the expertise of Adrian Newey.
Reports indicate that Adrian Newey, a renowned figure in F1 design, has been presented with an impressive offer of €100 million (£84 million) to become a part of Aston Martin over a span of four years.
According to the German outlet F1-Insider, Aston Martin is leading the race to acquire Newey, considered the most sought-after figure in the F1 paddock following his decision to leave Red Bull.
Despite reports from the Italian press suggesting otherwise, F1-Insider asserts that Ferrari remains in contention to secure Newey's expertise.
At the age of 65, he will depart from Red Bull in the early part of 2025 after spending nearly two decades with the team, during which he was a pivotal figure in securing all 13 of their world championship victories.
Newey, often celebrated as the most outstanding Formula 1 driver ever, has seen his name associated with several teams such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren, and Williams, following the revelation just before the Miami Grand Prix in May.
The departing chief technical officer of Red Bull is anticipated to sign with a different Formula 1 team and has stated he will decide on his next steps before the year concludes.
Newey has been quoted by F1 as saying, "I must confess, I don't frequently engage with the media, however, I do catch wind of [things]. Amanda, my spouse, tends to keep up with it and provides me with a brief summary, so indeed, it's quite complimentary, naturally."
"In the end, the reason I pursue my career isn't the main factor. Ever since I was about 10 or 11 years old, my dream was to become a designer in the world of motor racing, and having accomplished that, everything additional is just an extra reward."
"I've always been driven by a desire to enhance the speed and efficiency of cars, especially racing cars. That's my primary focus; the other aspects are just peripheral, but it's not what truly excites and inspires me."
Ferrari was widely thought to be the top choice for Newey, especially since he's expressed remorse over never having the opportunity to work with F1's most iconic team. However, Aston Martin has seemingly taken the lead in recent times.
The Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport has indicated that discussions regarding Newey's potential contract with Ferrari encountered difficulties due to his reported demand to include several leading engineers in the move, a claim that Ferrari has refuted to Crash.net.
Ferrari has not made any statements regarding discussions to potentially bring Newey on board.
