### “Aston Martin Bolsters F1 Ambitions with Ex-Mercedes Engine Guru Andy Cowell as New CEO
Aston Martin has recruited former Mercedes F1 engine expert Andy Cowell, further expanding their increasingly prominent Formula 1 team with yet another notable addition.
Aston Martin has appointed Andy Cowell, a former Mercedes F1 engine expert, as their new CEO.
Since leaving Mercedes in 2020, Cowell has remained an independent agent.
He led the team's Formula 1 engine project and was promoted to managing director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
Cowell played a crucial role in Mercedes' supremacy starting in 2014, as their engine was the best in the competition.
During Cowell's leadership, Mercedes sustained their position as the leading power unit in Formula 1, before he departed prior to the postponed 2020 season.
Aston Martin has recently brought on board Cowell, a prominent figure, as they prepare to compete for a world championship title.
He is set to become a member of the team on October 1, stepping into the role previously held by Martin Whitmarsh, the current group CEO.
In a recent statement, Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, expressed his gratitude towards Martin, highlighting his crucial role in the company's expansion. Stroll noted that over the past three years, Martin has been pivotal in building the team and reaching key achievements, such as strengthening ties with Honda and completing the advanced AMR Technology Campus in Silverstone.
"We are thrilled to have Andy join our team at such an important moment. With our collaboration with Honda, the support from our main sponsor Aramco, and Andy's guidance, we are set on the path to becoming a world championship team. Andy has my complete support and will have all the resources needed to succeed."
Cowell expressed his excitement about becoming part of Lawrence's innovative project and eagerly anticipates collaborating with the talented team that has been brought together.
"Formula 1 has always been my competitive drive, and I am entering Aston Martin Aramco at a thrilling moment as the AMR Technology Campus nears completion. Additionally, in 2026, we will become a full works team alongside our strategic partners, Honda and Aramco."
