Alpine Contemplates Benching Esteban Ocon for Canadian GP Following Monaco Incident
Alpine is contemplating benching Esteban Ocon for the Canadian Grand Prix as a serious option.
According to Craig Slater, a reporter for Sky Sports News, Alpine is considering the possibility of not having Esteban Ocon compete in the Canadian Grand Prix.
This incident occurred following a collision between Ocon and his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly during the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Gasly emerged without harm and was capable of proceeding in the competition, whereas Ocon experienced the displeasure of Alpine leader Bruno Famin.
Famin hinted at potential repercussions for Ocon, suggesting the possibility of benching him for the upcoming Montreal race.
In an update, Slater disclosed that Famin is seriously contemplating whether Alpine should replace Ocon for the Canadian race.
"Slater elaborated that Famin expressed his frustration. He mentioned maai-allcreator.com">king a difficult choice, which all have understood to mean sidelining Esteban Ocon for the upcoming Canadian race," Slater reported. "What I can tell you is that this option remains a significant contemplation for Alpine's leader, Bruno Famin.
"He is committed to the team's best interest and is willing to bench Esteban Ocon for a week to emphasize the importance of team discipline if necessary. However, such a decision has not yet been made."
"Ocon and Famin had in-person discussions following the grand prix. Subsequently, Ocon expressed his apologies both in private and through a public statement on social media platforms. It remains to be seen what unfolds next."
Another element at play is what lies ahead for Ocon.
Recent rumors suggest Ocon is considering opportunities beyond Alpine, with Audi and Haas emerging as potential destinations.
Alpine began the season at the bottom in terms of speed, yet they have gradually climbed their way up the rankings in competitiveness.
"Slater further mentioned, 'This raises doubts about Ocon's future with the team beyond the upcoming year. It's widely known that he and Pierre Gasly, the other Alpine driver, were competitors since their youth. The question is, can they work together harmoniously within the same team? This situation is yet another instance of them possibly not getting along well."
"Another aspect is that, from the perspective of many onlookers, Ocon's effort to overtake was seen as excessively hopeful and could have risked the team's chances of scoring any points in the grand prix."
