Alonso’s Wake-Up Call: Aston Martin Urged to ‘Work Harder, Talk Less’ After Spanish GP Setback
Fernando Alonso advises Aston Martin to increase their efforts and reduce their chatter after a frustrating performance at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso has urged Aston Martin to increase their efforts and reduce their talking after a disappointing performance at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix.
Aston Martin left the Spanish Grand Prix empty-handed, further highlighting the decline in their performance.
Although their performance at the beginning of this year wasn't as strong as it was last year, their form has noticeably declined even after implementing significant improvements.
At the beginning of the race, Alonso was passed by Valtteri Bottas from the Sauber team, which was surprising considering the difficulties faced by the team from Switzerland.
In a conversation with select media outlets, including Crash.net, Alonso shared his thoughts on Aston Martin's performance over the weekend in Barcelona. He expressed some disappointment, stating, "I am somewhat let down by the fact that we didn't earn any points. Honestly, we didn't deserve to score because our pace was lacking throughout the entire weekend."
"During the race, it was incredibly challenging. Excessive sliding in the corners not only wears out the tires but also creates additional issues."
"You lack speed and are experiencing significant wear. Overall, it was a prolonged race for us. We need to improve."
Alonso worries that Aston Martin's struggles will persist in the upcoming races.
Facing consecutive races at Austria and Silverstone, Alonso is concerned that Aston Martin's performance will persistently fall short of expectations.
"It's frustrating, but there's no changing it now. As soon as you see the checkered flag, you start focusing on Austria and consider what you could do differently," he added.
"It will likely be challenging because it shares some traits with Barcelona, particularly the extended corners. I anticipate another difficult weekend, possibly at Silverstone as well."
"We shouldn't let frustration take over. Now is the moment to increase our efforts, speak less, and accomplish more. That's our goal."
Aston Martin holds the fifth position in the F1 constructors' championship with a total of 44 points, which is 20 points ahead of RB.
