F1 2025: Damon Hill and Danica Patrick Weigh In on the Hamilton-Leclerc Rivalry at Ferrari
Analysis of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc's Competition Before the 2025 F1 Season: “On a Sunday…”
Damon Hill shares his thoughts on the internal rivalry at Ferrari in 2025.
1996 F1 world champion Damon Hill has characterized Ferrari's choice to team up Lewis Hamilton with Charles Leclerc in 2025 as "a fascinating social experiment".
The announcement of Hamilton joining Ferrari before the new season stunned the sports community.
This will mark the conclusion of Hamilton's longstanding partnership with Mercedes, a collaboration that began in 2013.
With Hamilton and Leclerc teaming up, Ferrari is set to have the most formidable duo in Formula 1, but this advantage might spark a fierce competition between the two drivers.
During the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, Hill shared his thoughts on what to anticipate between Hamilton and Leclerc next year.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he explained that initially, when you're young, you possess incredible speed and quick reflexes. However, at that stage, you might lack the necessary experience or self-assurance.
"[Leclerc] discussed Lewis' titles. He doesn't have those. Additionally, Lewis possesses remarkable racing abilities. During races, he appears to tap into another level when necessary."
"It will be fascinating to observe the dynamic between these two individuals! Witnessing them collaborate within what is essentially Charles’ core team will be intriguing. This team has supported and developed Charles, making him feel like a family member. Now, a major celebrity is joining the mix."
When asked to compare the two, Hill remarked, "Charles has an advantage in terms of raw speed on Saturdays. However, I would never underestimate Lewis on Sundays."
Ex-IndyCar driver Danica Patrick thinks that while Leclerc has a positive demeanor, he might be missing some self-assurance.
She noted that there is a strong case to be made for Charles being among the quickest drivers on the grid.
“Amazing performance in qualifying, showcasing impressive speed. It's fascinating to see how they plan to evolve the car as they approach the 2026 season with the upcoming regulations. Typically, with new rules, one team often excels beyond the rest. Could Ferrari be that team due to Lewis's presence?"
“Charles possesses a positive attitude, although he might not be very confident. However, he's composed, receptive to new ideas, and eager to learn. People who lack confidence often feel insecure in certain situations. It will be fascinating to see how everything unfolds. Charles has a remarkable chance to stand out and appear impressive.”
