Yamaha’s Strategy Shift: Boosting Test Team Amid Satellite Team Uncertainties for 2025 MotoGP Season
Could Fabio Quartararo Benefit from Enhanced Test Team Support if Yamaha Lacks a Satellite Team in 2025?
Might Yamaha Redirect its Efforts and Investments into Strengthening its MotoGP Test Team Should Establishing a Satellite Team by 2025 Become Unfeasible?
Fabio Quartararo has stated that it wouldn't be catastrophic if Yamaha fails to obtain a satellite team for the MotoGP season in 2025.
However, this would necessitate the factory investing significantly in its testing team to make amends.
Yamaha, the sole producer with merely two bikes in the lineup, has been making significant efforts to lure either VR46 or Pramac from their partnerships with Ducati.
However, VR46 has indicated its desire to retain the higher-performing Desmosedicis, while the unexpected rumors surrounding Pramac have similarly diminished.
"Quartararo dismissed the idea of it being a disaster if Yamaha doesn't have a satellite team by 2025. Instead, he suggested that it would be an opportune time to further invest in the testing team.
"Having an additional rider [beside Cal Crutchlow], increasing the number of motorcycles, and expanding the team could be beneficial."
"Undoubtedly, having a satellite team is advantageous, however… The progress we've seen in the race team from last year to this year is remarkable [and perhaps] it's time we also elevate our test team to a new level."
After a recent confidential trial at Mugello, Quartararo and his teammate Alex Rins will be equipped with updated aerodynamics for the upcoming race in Barcelona this weekend.
However, the evaluation also identified areas where the M1 requires enhancements for sustained performance in the future.
"The Mugello trial was excellent as it allowed us to effectively identify our primary areas for enhancement from this point through to the season's close," stated Quartararo.
"The specifics of enhancement are uncertain, but the location is clear to us."
"Following that, we adopted the upgraded aerodynamic kit which proved to be more advantageous for Cal, myself, and Alex. Therefore, we plan to utilize it throughout this weekend in Catalunya."
The updated aerodynamics provided: "A minor assistance in maneuvering. It wasn't a substantial change, but we aim to enhance whatever small aspects we can. It did allow for a marginally greater degree of leaning."
Quartararo has indicated that the main focus for upcoming enhancements appears to be on the engine, mentioning that he has competed using a slightly modified version of it already.
"In the Jerez competition, we operated with what we call a 'new engine'. However, the term 'new engine' currently implies [minor modifications]…as complete engine overhauls aren't really feasible. Nonetheless, we are making efforts this year to enhance it."
"Quartararo further mentioned, "The engine's speed has improved significantly. Throughout this year, I've hardly had any issues regarding its power. However, what we once had was nimbleness and superior cornering ability with the bike, rather than outright speed."
Currently, we've achieved the highest speed, but we've lost the nimbleness and maneuverability we once had. Therefore, our primary objective at this moment is to regain the agility and steering capabilities we previously possessed.
"This is why I believe the Mugello trial was successful; we experimented with various motorcycles and identified, though not precisely, areas requiring significant improvement, particularly in the engine."
