Yamaha’s Long Road to Recovery: Rule Changes and Strategic Moves Pave the Way for Future MotoGP Dominance
Yamaha was criticized for being unprepared and was cautioned that it would take a long time to bounce back. However, it was suggested that the company would make a comeback once the regulations are altered.
Yamaha has been cautioned that their comeback to the top of MotoGP won't be a quick solution.
Since Fabio Quartararo won the championship in 2021, the Japanese company has experienced a significant downturn.
Recent updates from Yamaha have been encouraging, particularly with their acquisition of the Pramac satellite team for 2025, which is viewed as a significant enhancement for their development efforts.
"They're putting in a lot of effort, but it will be a matter of years," stated Neil Hodgson of TNT Sports.
Gavin Emmett commented on Paolo Pavesio, the newly appointed managing director, stating, “He’s a great person to bring on board. He communicates very effectively."
"The investment and planning are in place with the addition of Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller."
Hodgson commended Yamaha, saying, "They are on the right track. They are working hard to recover from past setbacks, but it will take several years."
“They’ve reached their limit; I am absolutely amazed. They’re going all out, it’s incredibly encouraging.”
"I’ve spoken with Cal Crutchlow both during recorded interviews and in private discussions when he was still an active racer… they were not paying attention."
"They’ve answered, and I doubt they’ll be a factor next year given what they’re going to offer."
"However, with the upcoming rule changes, Yamaha will make a strong return. They are sure to secure championships in MotoGP again, without a doubt."
Michael Laverty mentioned that all the advancements being made currently for the 1000cc era will carry over.
Numerous companies realized their mistake when they switched to 800cc bikes and made significant alterations – Ducati gained an advantage, Honda developed a new model. The change proved unsuccessful for everyone involved.
"The bicycles will be slimmer in design—they're fairly broad at the moment—which will enhance safety. However, we will continue using the current version for the next two years."
According to Motorsport, Yamaha plans to replace their inline-four engine with a V4 engine in 2027.
Pramac, the new satellite team, has announced that Oliveira will join them next season, and they plan to name Miller as his teammate.
