Yamaha Gears Up for Major Overhaul: Promising ‘Something Important’ at Mugello Test Amid Grip Struggles
Yamaha gears up for 'significant developments' at Mugello trial
Yamaha is set to introduce 'major updates' and 'significant alterations' during the Mugello trial.
Alex Rins reveals that Yamaha has significant plans for a crucial MotoGP test scheduled after the Mugello race on June 3.
Following a tenth-place finish in the Catalunya Sprint race, team member Fabio Quartararo disclosed:
"I'm genuinely excited about the upcoming test in Mugello, followed by Valencia in mid-June, as I believe it could represent a significant shift for us."
Rins, who came in at the twelfth position, supported Quartararo's remarks by affirming:
"They intend to introduce a significant item during the Mugello trial. We'll observe its effectiveness."
Yamaha has unveiled a new aerodynamic package for its riders in Barcelona, yet they still face challenges with traction.
Quartararo remarked, "The last segment is really hurting our performance. It heavily relies on the ability to turn and maintain grip, which are precisely the areas we're lacking in."
Rins concurred, stating, "We still have a long way to go. During the sprint race, initially, it was extremely challenging for me to bring the bike to a halt due to the weight of the full fuel tank.
"Then, with each lap, I started to improve slightly [but] we must keep making progress on the motorcycle.
"I had difficulty gaining stability. The sections of corners 12 through 14, which require significant grip, posed the greatest challenge."
Crash.net has learned that Yamaha plans to introduce a variety of motorcycles for the testing session at Mugello.
Yamaha's test rider, Cal Crutchlow, was set to compete as a wild-card entry in the upcoming Italian MotoGP next weekend. However, he has had to pull out due to undergoing surgery on his hand.
