Williams Revamps F1 Technical Team with 26 New Recruits in Bid to Attract Carlos Sainz
Williams has significantly expanded their Formula 1 technical team by hiring 26 new members in an effort to attract Carlos Sainz.
Williams revealed their plan to hire 26 additional team members over the rest of the 2024 F1 season, which will include former Alpine technical director Matt Harman.
Just before the Austrian Grand Prix, Williams revealed that they have strengthened their technical team with six prominent new hires.
Though only six new hires have been revealed so far, an additional 20 employees are set to join Grove by the end of the year.
Team leader James Vowles is making a clear statement of intent as he attempts to persuade Carlos Sainz to become part of the team.
Williams are showing significant interest in Sainz, who has yet to make a decision about his team for the upcoming season.
Sainz could potentially join Williams, Sauber/Audi, or Alpine.
The most significant addition to their team is Harman, who has been appointed as the design director
Harman served as the technical director for Alpine until this season, resigning earlier this year.
Previously employed by Ferrari, Fabrice Moncade has taken on the role of chief engineer at Williams. Additionally, Juan Molina, who used to head aerodynamics at Haas, has been appointed as the chief aerodynamicist for the team.
Steve Winstanley, who formerly worked at Red Bull, has been named the new Chief Engineer.
In 2025, Richard Frith will take on the role of head of performance system at Williams.
The five new additions are being overseen by Pat Fry, the chief technical officer.
The last significant hire by Williams is Sorin Cheran, an expert in "AI and innovation."
In a recent statement about the team's progress, James Vowles expressed his excitement over the addition of six outstanding individuals to Williams. He emphasized that their goal is to return to the forefront of the competition, and the fact that they are able to draw in seasoned, Championship-winning professionals from other teams is a strong testament to the confidence in their path forward.
"Williams is committed to making the necessary investments to achieve victory, and this is only the beginning as we get ready to bring in additional talent from various teams in the upcoming months."
