Valtteri Bottas Expresses 99% Confidence in F1 Future Amid Williams Return Rumors
Valtteri Bottas expresses strong certainty, being almost entirely convinced, that he will continue to compete in Formula 1 racing in 2025, despite widespread rumors linking him to Williams.
Valtteri Bottas expresses nearly complete certainty, at "99%," about his presence on the F1 grid in 2025, amidst rumors suggesting a comeback to Williams is on the cards.
Bottas is among multiple racers whose contracts are set to expire when the year concludes.
The Finnish driver is no longer preferred by Audi's leadership, as CEO Andreas Seidl considers Carlos Sainz or the pair from Alpine as possible choices to team up with Nico Hulkenberg.
Bottas seems to play a significant role in the driver market, having strong connections with Williams.
Speculation has also placed him as a potential candidate for both Haas and Alpine in 2025.
During an exclusive discussion with several media outlets, including Crash.net, in Monaco on Thursday, Bottas shared insights into what lies ahead for him.
"At present, I haven't committed to any team," Bottas stated. "No, my point was it's only certain once the contract is officially signed."
"In this game, that's the process. It might not always be perfect, but sure, I'm aiming for 99%."
When asked about a timeline, he responded, "I'm hoping for a resolution shortly, which probably aligns with what the teams are thinking since everything is progressing rapidly. So, ideally, we'll have an update in the coming weeks."
Photos emerged of Bottas in the Williams team area during the recent Imola race, sparking widespread rumors about a potential comeback.
At 34, they collaborated with Williams leader James Vowles during their time at Mercedes.
During Bottas' tenure with the team, Vowles served as Mercedes' lead strategist.
On several instances, Vowles issued team directives to Bottas, famously leading to the well-known phrase, "Valtteri, it's James."
Bottas emphasized his strong rapport with Vowles, minimizing the significance of the previously mentioned team instructions.
"Absolutely not, it's always been positive. Clearly, there were moments, like the reactions to the James Valtteri radio communications, that got people talking, but that's largely been blown out of proportion by social media. So, indeed, my relationship has consistently been great, very direct, and transparent with him," he clarified.
Evaluating Williams, he stated, "I believe they're on the correct path. He definitely understands what it takes for a team to excel. Hence, upon learning he was appointed as the team principal of Williams, I was confident it was beneficial for the team given my familiarity with his capabilities. And indeed, up to this point, I'd say he's performed admirably."
