Trackhouse Aprilia Faces Major Shake-Up: Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Team in 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In a pre-race interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar last Sunday at the MotorLand Aragon MotoGP event, Brivio discussed Zeelenberg’s exit. Brivio, who started with Trackhouse in early 2024, described the decision as “very hard,” noting it was part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “some different direction.”
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be honest, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. While it is unfortunate in some respects, it is also a matter of business."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision was incredibly challenging."
Zeelenberg's future remains uncertain. The Dutchman, who once won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
