Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at the End of 2024: Davide Brivio Reflects on Difficult Decision
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to depart from Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team back when it was first established as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after the team's second season with the Noale brand, which is the first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar ahead of the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that deciding on Zeelenberg’s exit was a "very tough" decision. He added that this move is part of the American team’s efforts to explore "a new direction".
“This [Zeelenberg’s departure] is a topic we talked about,” stated Brivio. “We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions.”
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Additionally, most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that we needed to explore a different path for the future. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also just a part of business."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. A past victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman has held the role of team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, continuing his position as team manager.
