**Title: “Lando Norris Optimistic on F1 Title Chase: Believes Mercedes’ Involvement Could Shake Up Points Battle with Max Verstappen”**
Lando Norris offers a critical assessment on the pursuit of Max Verstappen in the F1 championship battle.
"Particularly if Mercedes is involved, there will be greater opportunities for significant shifts in points."
Lando Norris believes that the likelihood of overtaking Max Verstappen in the F1 championship has increased.
In the initial phases of the season, it appeared almost certain that Verstappen would secure his fourth consecutive title, given Red Bull's ongoing dominance.
As the F1 Spanish Grand Prix approaches this weekend, with McLaren's Norris and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc having all secured victories, there’s a palpable sense of real competition at each event.
Norris holds the third spot in the rankings, trailing Verstappen by 63 points, but was questioned about his chances of overtaking him.
"It's challenging, but I believe there are likely more opportunities available now," Norris remarked.
"Particularly if Mercedes is competing, there is a higher likelihood of significant shifts in points, compared to a scenario where Max has a poor weekend and finishes in third place or lower."
"Possibly, it might be a fifth or sixth place, but if you can be the person who secures a win, you can significantly change the points standings in just one weekend."
"If that's the case, I'd say the likelihood increases."
"There will continue to be a significant number of points. His skills are well-rounded, so he seldom makes errors or fails during qualifying."
"With a little added pressure, you can never predict how things might shift, and it becomes easier to slip up."
"In my opinion, it's challenging because you can't question Max's abilities in any aspect; he doesn't have any clear weaknesses."
"It can happen, but he will require exceptional car performance and consistent results all season long."
"They've shown more inconsistency compared to us, so we need to take advantage of their weaker moments and strive to be the leading car when they falter."
Max has likely managed to avoid consequences for many errors.
Norris has been striving to secure victory in the last three grand prix races.
He acknowledged feeling both motivated and frustrated by finishing twice in second place and once in fourth place.
"Both. I believe it's essential to focus on the positives because, in my opinion, we're still relatively close to having had a series of poor seasons," he stated.
"We should certainly keep in mind how difficult things were and recognize the advancements we've achieved."
"It's easy to forget how quickly things can change. Remembering how poorly we performed last year compared to our current situation is a strong motivator for everyone."
"I believe it's motivating for the whole team. Therefore, it's crucial to keep reminding everyone of this."
"However, everything is relative. Regardless of whether you're competing for first place or tenth place, knowing that you could have made better choices and possibly won makes the victory even more significant."
"When you're competing for tenth place and maybe aiming for ninth, you think, alright, it's just one or two points. But when it's for second place and you believe you should have won the race, it feels like you're actually winning a race."
"It stings quite a bit more. However, we feel motivated because knowing that we should have won drives us to approach the next race weekend with the determination to make up for the previous one."
Norris argues that simply being very good isn't enough to compete for wins in every F1 race.
"Absolutely, without a doubt. Particularly in the past three to four years, Max has likely been able to make numerous errors and still secure victories effortlessly," he stated.
"The team might have made errors, yet he could still secure an easy victory."
"One could argue that he didn't deserve the victory last weekend in Montreal, but he was likely the most consistent throughout the race. Both he and his team made the fewest errors, which ultimately led to his triumph."
"If you believe that we should have pitted when the safety car was deployed, we missed our chance to maintain the lead and lost the opportunity to contend for the victory."
“Throughout the entire weekend, George had the fastest car and his driving skills were exceptional.
"Considering his overall speed and if he hadn't made a few errors, which all drivers make, even Max, he likely would have had an opportunity to win the race."
From that angle, one might believe Max didn't deserve to win, yet he still secured victory. This demonstrates that even without having the most superior car, he consistently proves his remarkable abilities.
"We've always been aware that it's not just about having an improved car and then moving forward without considering other factors."
"Given how closely matched the cars are in terms of speed, it has become crucial to fine-tune the strategy and perfect the minor details, as these factors can significantly impact the outcome."
