2024 Austrian Grand Prix in F1 – Friday Practice – Event Summary

A summary of the key events from Friday's F1 practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Tune in at 3pm UK time, 30 minutes ahead of sprint qualifying.

The complete results from the first practice session (FP1) at the Red Bull

Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, George Russell, Yuki Tsunoda, and Fernando Alonso.

Verstappen leads, followed by Piastri, Leclerc, and Sainz.

Norris was set to compete with Verstappen, but he committed an error in the last part of the track.

He positions himself just behind Verstappen to secure second place.

Recording a time of 1 minute and 5.685 seconds, he is 0.370 seconds faster than Leclerc. Ferrari appears to be slightly off the pace.

Stroll advances to second place behind Hamilton while running on soft tires.

Zhou and Bottas are currently in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Bottas begins his qualifying run on soft tires.

It appears that most of the drivers are currently running with a higher fuel load. We can anticipate some attempts at qualifying laps near the conclusion of the session.

Red Bull has managed to get him back on the track. He was lucky to navigate his car back to the garage.

Max Verstappen has come to a halt on the circuit due to an "engine issue" he reported.

The list includes Hamilton, Russell, Verstappen, Perez, Norris, Leclerc, Sainz, Magnussen, Piastri, and Ocon.

Hamilton clocks in at 1m06.254s, placing him slightly more than a tenth of a second ahead of Russell. Mercedes maintains their impressive performance this weekend.

"All these people complaining about the traffic."

Sainz managed to secure only the sixth position, trailing 0.5 seconds behind Russell's leading time. Meanwhile, Leclerc finished in 10th place overall.

The list includes Russell, Hamilton, Verstappen, Norris, Magnussen, Sainz, Perez, Piastri, Gasly, and Leclerc.

Russell has extended his lead over Verstappen to 0.3 seconds, showcasing Mercedes' impressive beginning to the weekend.

Hamilton secures a Mercedes 1-2 finish once more, clocking in at 1 minute and 6.925 seconds, just 0.088 seconds in front of Russell.

Russell clocked a time of 1 minute 7.013 seconds, with Norris coming in second, just 0.037 seconds behind. Verstappen secured the third position, trailing by 0.5 seconds.
