Sainz Surges Ahead in Scorching Hungarian GP Opener, Outpacing Verstappen and Leclerc

Carlos Sainz takes the lead for Ferrari during the first practice round of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
In the initial practice session at the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz took the lead ahead of Max Verstappen and his fellow Ferrari team member, Charles Leclerc, according to Lewis Larkam's coverage from Budapest.
In the session using soft tyres, Sainz clocked a lap time that outpaced the current world champion Verstappen by 0.276 seconds, and was 0.298 seconds quicker than Leclerc, positioning Ferrari in both first and third places.
Red Bull has introduced a significant enhancement to their RB20 vehicle for the upcoming race at the Hungaroring, whereas Ferrari has unveiled a new floor design aimed at addressing their recent issues with bouncing.
George Russell led the Mercedes pack, securing the fourth spot, trailing Sainz's leading time by approximately four-tenths of a second, with Zhou Guanyu making an impressive showing in fifth place, driving his enhanced Sauber.
Lando Norris secured a sixth-place finish, surpassing his McLaren counterpart Oscar Piastri, as well as Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll, who was behind the wheel of a significantly improved Aston Martin.
Lewis Hamilton, who just secured his inaugural victory in 945 days at the previous British Grand Prix, finished in the top 10.
The seven-time world champion lagged more than half a second behind the time set by Sainz.
Facing intense pressure, Sergio Perez secured the 11th spot, finishing over seven tenths behind the pace.
The initial practice session unfolded under extremely hot weather, as the temperature on the track soared to 60 degrees.
