Rival Team’s Heartfelt Tribute: Luca Salvadori Posthumously Crowned Champion After Tragic Accident
Competing team pays tribute to Luca Salvadori
Italian motorcyclist passes away in crash in Germany
The Pistard team, competing in Italy's National Trophy 1000, has decided to pull out of the last two races of the 2024 season in order to honor the late Luca Salvadori by securing his championship title.
The motorcycle racing community was shocked last weekend when well-known racer and social media influencer Salvadori lost his life in an accident in Germany.
Salvadori was participating in the Frohberg stage of the International Road Racing Championship when the tragic accident occurred.
Salvadori, a veteran competitor in Italy's national racing circuit, also participated with Pramac in the MotoE World Championship last year.
His passing has led to a flood of tributes from those involved in the racing world.
Nevertheless, the Pistard team, which includes Filippo Rovelli as their rider in the National Trophy 1000, has shown the greatest act of support for Salvadori.
As the 2024 series nears its conclusion with just two rounds left, both the team and rider, who were Salvadori's main rivals, have decided to withdraw. This move paves the way for the late Italian to be honored as a posthumous champion.
Gianluca Galesi Milella shared on his social media that an extremely unfortunate incident occurred, which he finds almost unbelievable.
"Our competitor for the past four years, whether it was Roberto Tamburini, Gabriele Giannini, or this year Filippo Rovelli, has passed away."
"Luca was an amazing person—kind, gentle, pleasant, and cheerful. Anyone who had the good luck and pleasure to meet him in person understands the kind of person Luca was."
"The final time I spoke with him, we discussed a race he was planning to participate in Germany. He was uncertain about attending to preserve his bike. Ultimately, he decided to go, but tragically, he never returned."
"Filippo Rovelli and I discussed the possibility of going to Imola."
"We won't be attending Imola or Cervesina for the races. Our presence there will solely be to honor Luca."
"Through this act, we aim to ensure that Luca, although no longer with us, can still rejoice from above in the National Trophy 1000 title, which he had been pursuing for many years and nearly achieved."
"This year, despite having four wins out of six and a chance to claim victory, he won't be able to celebrate."
“The only way we can ensure he wins the championship is by not competing in the final two races.”
