Ricciardo Determined to Close Performance Gap, Not Focused on F1 Future with Red Bull
Daniel Ricciardo isn't focusing on his Formula 1 career prospects despite encouraging comments from Red Bull.
Daniel Ricciardo is not dwelling on his Formula 1 prospects with Red Bull, instead concentrating on narrowing the distance to his colleague Yuki Tsunoda.
In 2024, Tsunoda has consistently outperformed Ricciardo in both qualifying rounds and the actual races.
In the qualifying rounds, the driver from Japan holds a commanding lead of 7-1, and the narrative doesn't change much on the day of the race, where Tsunoda is ahead with a 6-1 record.
Despite facing challenges, Ricciardo appears to be at minimal risk of not retaining his position for the upcoming season.
RB's chief, Peter Bayer, has expressed satisfaction with his current drivers, showing a desire for Tsunoda and Ricciardo to remain on the team into 2025.
Despite Bayer's satisfaction with Ricciardo, the ex-McLaren racer is eager to make progress, admitting his annoyance at falling behind Tsunoda in terms of performance this season.
"To be candid, I haven't devoted a great deal of consideration to what lies ahead," Ricciardo shared regarding his future prospects. "Hearing that is indeed positive. And certainly, it would be fantastic. Yet, my aim is to achieve consistent improvement.
"I believe that today, we might uncover reasons for minor setbacks here and there. However, given the nature of F1, it's unlikely for things to ever be flawless."
"I simply feel discontented about these existing voids. That seems to be the source of my annoyance. Clearly, though, the team has been performing admirably."
Ricciardo continues to be optimistic about improving his situation.
The Australian expressed gratitude towards the RB team for their significant support, while also emphasizing his intention not to become overly complacent.
"Ricciardo stated, "They've offered tremendous support. Clearly, they have faith in my abilities, though the challenge has been maintaining that performance consistently throughout the year."
Currently, my attention is primarily on the present rather than becoming overly content or enthusiastic about what lies ahead.
"My aspiration is to excel in that activity, irrespective of whether it involves a car or myself. I aspire for improvement. Despite feeling relatively okay today, it's evident that it wasn't up to the mark."
