Red Bull’s Rocky Road in Monaco: Verstappen Voices Concern Over ‘Kangaroo’ Ride Issues with No Immediate Fix in Sight
Max Verstappen concedes that Red Bull lacks a definitive path or answer to their ride problems.
Max Verstappen delivers an alarming assessment of the challenges that plagued Red Bull on Friday.
Max Verstappen has stated that Red Bull lacks a definitive strategy or answer to address the handling problems they encountered in the Friday practice sessions of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix.
The triple world title holder voiced his frustration with his Red Bull vehicle, describing it as "bouncing like a kangaroo" and causing him "headaches" during the second round of racing through the renowned narrow and winding roads of Monte Carlo. His Red Bull colleague, Sergio Perez, also expressed dissatisfaction with his vehicle, labeling the experience as "horrendous".
Concerningly for Red Bull, Verstappen played down the team's prospects of overcoming the issue.
"Explaining the current situation is quite challenging," admitted Verstappen.
"This outcome wasn't entirely unforeseen by me. However, it ranks among the most unfavorable results I could have imagined for the weekend thus far. Challenging."
The track is filled with numerous bumps, edges, and shifts in slope which are simply unmanageable for us.
"Each instance we cover it, there's a significant reduction in our lap speed. The reason being, the car isn't handling well. Currently, this is hindering our ability to accelerate."
"The weekend lacks a definitive plan or answer to address such an issue."
When inquired whether Red Bull could replicate their Imola comeback following a challenging Friday, Verstappen responded, “Imola was a unique scenario. We faced distinct problems there that we managed to address through setup adjustments.
"The problems we're facing can't be fixed through adjustments, as they stem from the car's inherent design and construction."
"Transforming these situations instantly is impossible. We're bound by them. We'll make an effort, yet I'm not anticipating any wonders."
Verstappen emphasized that Ferrari is significantly ahead and mentioned that he is not focusing on competing for the top spot and victory at the moment.
"My goal is to address our current problems to enhance its drivability," he mentioned. "After that, we can assess our situation. I'm not anticipating any wonders."
