Red Bull’s Quest to Reignite Sergio Perez’s Spark After Spanish Grand Prix Disappointment
Red Bull acknowledges the necessity to improve Sergio Perez's performance to better integrate him into the competition.
"We need to involve him more in the competition."
Red Bull has shown support for Sergio Perez following a lackluster performance at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix, emphasizing their eagerness to help him regain his competitive edge.
Perez managed to secure the eighth spot in the qualifiers and maintained his position to the end, while his teammate Max Verstappen once again clinched victory.
This indicates that Perez, who has just secured a contract extension that was expected to quell any uncertainties regarding his career, continues to lack a podium placement for the fifth consecutive grand prix.
"Christian Horner, the team principal, informed Sky Sports that they opted for a three-stop strategy for him. It turned out to be successful."
He overtook Pierre Gasly on the final lap. This victory likely boosted his confidence.
"In theory, we posited that eighth position was the highest he could reach today, and he met that expectation."
"He's likely gleaned some experience from this weekend, but we must work on integrating him further."
Perez commented, "I believe the primary issue lay in the initial placement."
"I passed Fernando, but then Nico managed to pass me."
"The initial phase was extremely challenging, negatively affecting the outcome of the race."
"Traversing through the polluted atmosphere proved challenging."
Perez is trailing behind the high-performing McLarens and Ferraris, as well as the revitalized Mercedes racers.
Asked about the growing rivalry with Red Bull, he noted, "They've returned, showing significant strength."
"It is essential that we ensure flawless weekends for the squad."
Currently, McLaren appears to be the leading team.
"It's essential that we return, across various circuits, with enhanced competitiveness."
Perez is clear on his needs from within the garage to regain the level of performance he exhibited early in the season, leading Red Bull to offer him a renewed contract.
"He mentioned that improvements are on the horizon," he stated. "Just like everybody else.
"However, I believe that the most crucial aspect is to optimize equilibrium, beyond any improvement."
"Currently, things have been quite challenging for me."
Perez ranks fifth in the Formula 1 rankings following ten races, trailing behind Verstappen, Norris, and the two Ferrari competitors.
