Red Bull Urges Sergio Perez to Rebound After Fifth Consecutive Podium Miss
Red Bull acknowledges the necessity of getting Sergio Perez, who has been performing below expectations, more involved in the action.
"We must work on integrating him better into the competition."
Red Bull showed their support for Sergio Perez following a lackluster performance at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix, but they are eager to see him regain his top form.
Perez started the race in eighth place and maintained that position until the end, while his teammate Max Verstappen secured another victory.
Perez, despite having secured a new contract intended to dispel uncertainties about his future, has now gone five consecutive grand prix races without finishing on the podium.
Team principal Christian Horner informed Sky Sports, "We placed him on a three-stop strategy, and it proved successful."
"On the final lap, he overtook Pierre Gasly. That race will have boosted his confidence."
"Based on our analysis, we theorized that eighth place was the highest he could attain today. He managed to accomplish that."
"He gained some experience this weekend, but we need to involve him more in future activities."
Perez commented, "I believe the primary issue was where we started."
"I passed Fernando but then Nico passed me."
"The initial phase of the race was extremely challenging, which affected the overall performance."
"Tracking was challenging due to the polluted air."
Perez has lagged behind the strong-performing McLaren and Ferrari teams, as well as the rejuvenated Mercedes drivers.
When asked about the growing competition from Red Bull, he responded, "They are back and very strong."
"We need to ensure flawless weekends for the team."
“Currently, McLaren appears to be the most formidable team.”
“We need to return to various circuits with improved competitiveness.”
Perez is aware of what he needs from within the garage to regain the performance level he showed at the season's beginning, which led Red Bull to offer him a new contract.
"There are improvements on the way," he mentioned. "Just like everyone else."
“But I believe the key priority is optimizing the balance, even more so than any improvements or upgrades.
"Right now, things have been very challenging for me."
After 10 races, Perez holds the fifth spot in the F1 rankings, trailing behind Verstappen, Norris, and the two Ferrari drivers.
