Pedro Acosta’s Impact: How Tech3 Secured Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales for a Star-Studded 2025 Line-Up
Pedro Acosta played a crucial role in helping Tech3 secure a high-profile roster for 2025. According to Tech3, Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales were partly drawn to join the team because of Acosta's influence.
Herve Poncharal has acknowledged that Pedro Acosta played a significant role in persuading Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini to sign with the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team for the 2025 season.
In a 2025 reorganization of KTM’s lineup, standout newcomer Acosta will join the factory team, partnering with Brad Binder.
Tech3 will stop using RC16 motorcycles under the GASGAS name and will instead become a factory KTM team. The team, led by Poncharal, will welcome multiple grand prix winners Bastianini and Vinales.
In a MotoGP podcast last week, Poncharal mentioned that the new roster for his team was partially influenced by Acosta’s performance. Acosta, who achieved seven podium finishes in 2024, demonstrated the capabilities of the RC16 motorcycle.
“Certainly, I believe that having next year’s line-up of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales is partly due to Pedro,” he stated.
"I think if Pedro hadn't demonstrated his skills and competed fiercely with Maverick and Enea in several races, things would be different. When I asked them why they chose to consider our offer and potentially sign with us, they mentioned that seeing Pedro's performance on that bike was a key factor. They were impressed by what he could do and thought, 'I'd like to ride that bike.'"
"In my opinion, Pedro has demonstrated the capabilities of the RC16. Enea and Maverick have both noticed and admired it."
"He definitely assisted us. My emotions? I feel fortunate and honored, especially since Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales are prominent figures and also contenders for the championship title."
"I understand that if they show up, it's because none of them have claimed the MotoGP championship yet, but that's their goal."
The riders at KTM have been assured that they will all be treated equally, with identical equipment, updates, and team support throughout the season.
"If there is an upgrade available for only two riders because the others aren't prepared for the race, the rider with the highest position in the championship standings will receive it."
"We already have support this year, but having an amazing team of four riders and the opportunity to compete with the factory team in every race is a significant challenge."
Poncharal comments: "However, this also puts pressure on us, as Enea is transitioning from the top technical setup available in the paddock."
"Maverick benefits from a highly advanced technical setup."
"Both riders have won grand prix races and are aiming for the championship. Our goal is to ensure they feel comfortable with the bike and integrated into our team."
