Parliament Elects New Leadership: Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs Set for Two-and-a-Half-Year Term

On Tuesday, all 20 of Parliament's standing committees and four subcommittees convened their initial meetings to choose their Chairs and Vice-Chairs.

A leadership team, consisting of a Chair and up to four Vice-chairs, is chosen for a term of two and a half years. These committees handle legislative proposals, form negotiation teams to engage in discussions with EU ministers, approve reports, arrange hearings, and oversee other EU organizations and institutions.

Foreign Affairs Committee

Chairperson: David McAllister (European People's Party, Germany)

First Vice-Chair: Hana Jalloul (Socialists & Democrats, Spain)

Second Vice-Chair: Urmas Paet (Renew Europe, Estonia)

Third Vice-Chair: Alberico Gambino, representing the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR), Italy.

Fourth Vice-Chair: Ioan-Rareș Bogdan (European People's Party, Romania)

Human Rights Subcommittee

Chairperson: Mounir Satouri, representing the Greens/European Free Alliance from France

First Vice-Chair: Marta Temido (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Portugal)

Second Vice-Chair: Łukasz Kohut, representing the European People's Party (EPP) from Poland (PL)

The election for the 3rd Vice-Chair will take place during an upcoming meeting.

The 4th Vice-Chair will be chosen at an upcoming meeting.
