**Oscar Piastri Slams “Embarrassing” Track Limits After Controversial Q3 Lap Deletion at Austrian GP**
Oscar Piastri criticizes "ridiculous" F1 track limits following the removal of his Q3 lap
"We all put effort into adhering to track limits; just add gravel where needed, and I didn’t even leave the track."
An exasperated Oscar Piastri has criticized Formula 1's enforcement of track limits as "embarrassing" after the qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Piastri initially secured the third spot in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring, but his top lap time was invalidated due to exceeding track limits, resulting in him being relegated to seventh place.
Video replays indicated that Piastri may have gone a bit wide at Turn 6. However, different camera views made it challenging to determine if the McLaren driver had indeed crossed the track boundaries.
In preparation for this weekend's race at the Red Bull Ring, organizers have implemented major alterations to the circuit, especially at Turn 9. These changes include adding a gravel trap and adjusting the kerb to address track limits.
Due to the modifications in this part of the circuit, Piastri was unhappy with how the boundaries were enforced at Turn 6.
In an interview with Sky following the session, he expressed his frustration, saying, "I find it humiliating. We all put in efforts to enforce track limits, adding gravel in certain areas, and yet I didn't even leave the track. I remained within the boundaries. It was probably my best performance at Turn 6, and it still got nullified."
"I can't understand why they've invested so much money, potentially millions, to modify the final few corners when there are still places where you can go off the track. In any case, everyone else managed to stay on track, but I didn't."
When asked why it was "embarrassing," Piastri explained that it was the best he had navigated Turn 6, pushing the limits of the track. He emphasized that this is what everyone desires to witness. He also mentioned that considerable effort has been dedicated to resolving these issues.
"There shouldn't be any problem with track limits at this corner, especially if you remain on the track like I did and avoid the gravel. Since I'm the only one affected by this, I'm probably more outspoken about it at the moment."
"It's quite humiliating to see us pushing ourselves to the brink, and just one centimeter more would land me in the gravel, wrecking my lap regardless, and then it gets disqualified."
Several McLaren engineers, along with Oscar Piastri's manager Mark Webber, were observed reviewing Piastri's lap following the session.
Anthony Davidson from Sky expressed that the external footage from Piastri's vehicle did not provide clear evidence.
