Michelin’s 2025 MotoGP Front Tyre Wins Favor Among Riders at Misano Test
Michelin reports that most MotoGP riders favored the 2025 front tire, stating, "Most riders were in favor. They adjusted to it after a few laps since it changes the way the bike handles."
During Monday's designated Misano MotoGP testing session, time was allocated specifically for assessing Michelin's upcoming 2025 front tyre.
The updated tire has been engineered to handle the increased demands from aerodynamics and ride-height mechanisms, and to tackle issues related to temperature and pressure sensitivity when riding in close proximity to other motorcycles.
"Michelin's head of MotoGP, Piero Taramasso, shared that they had scheduled a session for the official riders to experiment with the latest series of front tyres, focusing specifically on the Michelin front test tyre."
The design on the front has been completely revamped. This includes fresh construction and a new shape. The goal with this tire is to enhance grip and improve responsiveness, while also making it more resilient to changes in pressure and temperature.
Ultimately, this tire is also lighter than the current model, enhancing its sustainability.
Most of the riders were positive about it. It required a couple of laps to adjust as the tyre's handling was distinct. Once accustomed, they began to exert more effort and informed us that the tyre offered a solid grip. The overall response, including stability, particularly in the high-speed turns, was favorable.
"The test results were encouraging. The foundation is strong. Naturally, it wasn't flawless, thus requiring us to tweak the tire to enhance its performance and ensure it suits all manufacturers and riders effectively."
"We're quite pleased, as I've mentioned, the foundation for beginning the work and implementing adjustments is solid, and it functioned across all the bikes without requiring significant alterations to the configuration.
"Now, our next step is to return to France, scrutinize all the information we have, and figure out our next moves, especially considering our limited time frame…"
Bagnaia Exclaims His Enjoyment
Francesco Bagnaia, the current world champion from Ducati, appeared to be the biggest fan of the newly introduced front tire.
"Bagnaia expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I'm thrilled. It was exactly what I needed. As a rider who heavily relies on braking into corners, this tyre performed exceptionally well."
The Italian rider voiced a common complaint among his peers, stating that the new front tire is harder to maneuver and feels heavier. However, he also expressed appreciation for its grip and the ability to exert pressure on the tire.
"I believe that if we're positioned behind someone else, the issue with tire pressure will be less noticeable with the new tire. Therefore, it seems like it could be a positive move."
"Initially, the experience felt odd… But once I got the hang of it, it turned out to be excellent."
As MotoGP approaches its overseas races at the month's end, it is anticipated that riders won't test the new front tire until the post-season test in Valencia.
