Max Verstappen secures the pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix sprint race, just ahead of Lando Norris.
Max Verstappen edged out Lando Norris to secure the top spot for the sprint race at the F1 Austrian Grand Prix.
Norris seemed to have secured the pole position in the one-lap showdown during SQ3, but Verstappen from Red Bull edged him out with a slightly faster lap, beating him by a mere 0.093 seconds.
This represents the sixth consecutive pole position at the Red Bull Ring for championship leader Verstappen.
Oscar Piastri's McLaren secured the third-fastest time, trailing Verstappen by three-tenths of a second.
George Russell secured fourth place, while Carlos Sainz from Ferrari positioned himself between the Mercedes drivers, leaving seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in sixth place.
Sergio Perez managed to secure the seventh position in his Red Bull, trailing his teammate Verstappen by a significant 1.3 seconds.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly from the Alpine team secured the eighth and ninth positions respectively. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc couldn't complete a lap as his Ferrari stalled at the pitlane, causing him to run out of time.
Kevin Magnussen from Haas will begin the race in 11th position, while Lance Stroll of Aston Martin will be right next to him in 12th.
The recently re-contracted Stroll once more outperformed his teammate Fernando Alonso, who finished in 13th place, just ahead of RB's Yuki Tsunoda.
Following his advancement into the second qualifying session (SQ2), Logan Sargeant posted the slowest time, placing him 15th for the Williams team.
Facing pressure to keep his Red Bull seat for the upcoming year, Daniel Ricciardo managed to secure only 16th place, finishing ahead of Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Sauber's Valtteri Bottas.
Alex Albon was unable to deliver his typical impressive performance in qualifying, ending up in 19th place with his Williams. The British-Thai driver will start from the back row for the sprint race, alongside Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber.
