Max Verstappen Declares Red Bull ‘On Fire’ After Dominant Austrian GP Qualifying Performance
Max Verstappen praises Red Bull's performance, saying the team is "on fire": "It's been a long time since I felt this way." The driver expressed his admiration for the team following the qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen praised Red Bull, saying the team is "on fire" following their impressive showing in the F1 qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Verstappen secured the top starting spot at the Red Bull Ring, boasting a lead of more than four-tenths of a second, an impressive margin considering the brief length of the Austrian track.
The Dutch driver stood out from the competition as he achieved the 40th pole position of his Formula 1 career.
Christian Horner praised Verstappen over the team radio, calling him "absolutely mighty."
Horner: "Great job, my friend. That was incredible, truly outstanding."
Verstappen responded: "That qualifying session was incredible. The car performed exceptionally well, team. Great job on the improvements, it was really impressive."
Before the race in Austria, Red Bull faced more challenging competitions, frequently contending with strong performances from McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes.
However, Red Bull returned to top form on their home turf.
Verstappen remarked that he believed the entire session was highly successful. He noted that the car performed more optimally, allowing him to push harder and depend on the car's grip and balance. He found the experience to be very enjoyable.
"I aimed to advance through the first qualifying session without resorting to a fresh set of tires, and that strategy paid off. After that, we focused on making small adjustments to the car's balance. Each lap felt positive."
"The main focus, naturally, is on perfecting each turn. It's been some time since I've felt this good in the car, especially considering the gap. In the recent races, I've consistently been either just ahead or just behind. So, this outcome is certainly a big boost for the team."
Verstappen didn't label his pole position lap as flawless but expressed satisfaction with the improvements Red Bull achieved following the sprint.
"It went well," he mentioned. "There are certainly always aspects that could be improved, definitely, when I reflect on the lap. I felt assured. I knew that if I executed a solid lap, it would be sufficient to secure pole position."
"That's what I accomplished today, and it's important. Our team put in a lot of effort to improve our competitiveness compared to recent rounds, and it looks like it paid off."
"I’m quite pleased with the result, I suppose. In qualifying, you always aim to get the best lap possible, and some laps turn out better than others. This one was definitely a strong performance. While I might never call any lap perfect, this one was certainly very good."
