Maverick Vinales Clarifies Future Amid Aprilia MotoGP Contract Speculation
Maverick Vinales dismisses rumors of a renewed Aprilia MotoGP contract
Maverick Vinales has contradicted reports stating that he has agreed to a fresh contract with Aprilia for MotoGP racing.
As Aleix Espargaro plans to conclude his career at this season's end, Aprilia aims to secure Maverick Vinales for their premier MotoGP team, aiming to maintain consistency into 2025.
In 2025, Aprilia is set to welcome a fresh face aboard its team, following Espargaro's choice to part ways. This move was further hinted at by Aprilia Racing's CEO, Massimo Rivola, whose latest remarks seem to secure Vinales' spot for the upcoming season.
However, the Spaniard acknowledged that there was a misunderstanding due to the translation of Rivola's remarks.
Vinales refuted claims of signing any documents, explaining to MotoGP.com, "Essentially, what happened is Massimo [Rivola] made a statement that, once translated into Spanish, conveyed a different meaning."
"I mentioned that my participation hasn't been finalized yet. No contract has been signed by me. It's necessary to hold off for now. Currently, it feels somewhat premature to make a decision.
"I need to figure out what lies ahead for me. However, at this moment, all my attention is right here. This is Aprilia's home grand prix, so naturally, we aim to excel."
Vinales has acknowledged considering various opportunities, yet when questioned about his continuation with Aprilia, a team he has significantly advanced with, the ex-Yamaha competitor mentioned, "Currently, my main focus is to excel in each race. That's my mindset.
"My main focus is to replicate the success I had in Austin."
Regarding the matter of other companies showing interest in Vinales, it is Honda that has shown a desire for Vinales.
However, the allure of a lucrative deal might sway Vinales, his concerns about their track results have been highlighted through his latest remarks, as expressed by the 29-year-old racer.
In a conversation with Motomatters, Vinales expressed, "Right now, I'm fully dedicated to Aprilia, without a doubt. My focus is not just on this weekend but also on the entire season, aiming to make it a truly successful one."
"Regarding what lies ahead, I remain uncertain. Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time contemplating the future."
"My belief is that I must uncover my fullest capabilities. Do you believe there [at Honda] I could discover my utmost capabilities? It's challenging. It doesn't seem apparent to me."
"Perhaps in the future, I'm uncertain, at the moment it's challenging to consider that.
"However, I believe my choice will ultimately be based on sheer performance and striving to truly achieve my goals here."
